ByTowne Cinema

The ByTowne Cinema has been a landmark fixture in Downtown Ottawa since 1988, when Towne Cinema operators relocated to the Nelson Cinema (established in 1946). For 30+ years, the ByTowne has continued to exhibit a wide array of arthouse cinema for Ottawa audiences, and has grown to be highly regarded as one of Canada’s foremost independent cinemas.

Fox Theatre

The Fox Theatre is an independent cinema which was opened by Arthur Brooks Webster in 1914, originally as The Theatre Without A Name. Name changes to the Pastime and The Prince Edward preceded its eventual adoption of the Fox Theatre moniker in 1937, and it has remained a mainstay of Toronto’s Beaches community ever since.

Job Description

Reporting to the Marketing & Communications Manager, the Marketing Coordinator will promote the Apollo Cinema, ByTowne Cinema, Fox Theatre across a range of platforms, including social media, e-newsletters, and cinema websites, while also considering the impact on sales. The interested individual should have excellent writing skills, as well as a firm understanding of social media, website management, graphic design, and a love of film!

Responsibilities include:

  • Collaborate with the Marketing Manager, owners, and cinema staff to facilitate marketing activities, enhance brand recognition, and support revenue generation.
  • Write, generate, and share engaging daily content on web and social media platforms to connect with and attract cinema audiences.
  • Develop compelling film descriptions for the cinema websites, using language that engages our diverse audience base.
  • Maintain and update free listing websites, monitor and respond to social media inquiries.
  • Independently handle the creation and distribution of newsletter campaigns and email communications, ensuring our messaging is consistently impactful.
  • Assist in developing landing pages for campaigns, programming, and events on the cinema websites.
  • Keep abreast of changes and trends in social media, technology, and design, applying relevant insights to our communication strategies.
  • Support the execution of events and development of partnerships, representing our brand to external partners.
  • Regularly update databases, including contact lists for newsletter recipients, community partners, vendors, stakeholders, and members.
  • Identify opportunities for marketing promotion while also considering potential sales impacts.

Qualifications:

  • Two to three years of experience in content creation and managing web and social media.
  • Excellent writing skills, with a capacity to adapt to different audiences and platforms.
  • Working knowledge of various computer software such as Google Drive, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, WordPress, MailChimp, GA4 and social media management and analytics tools.
  • Understanding of audience segmentation & sales funnel development.
  • Experience creating and executing social media ad campaigns.
  • Ability to organize time and resources with multiple priorities and deadlines.
  • Strong project management skills, preferably including experience using project management software such as Asana, and an attention to detail.
  • Collaborative and community-building approach with strong interpersonal and communications skills.
  • Familiarity with Google Ads & Meta Ads
  • Willing to work flexible hours including occasional evenings and weekends.
  • Experience using customer relationship management software for membership and/or loyalty programs is considered an asset.
  • Photography and video skills are considered an asset.
  • Bilingual in English and French (spoken and written).

Please note that while Ottawa is preferred work location, Toronto or Kitchener will also be considered.
