The Opportunity

As a Co-op Student in Corporate Development and Global Sustainability, you will play a key role in advancing various strategic Corporate Development and Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) initiatives. Focus areas in Corporate Development include the identification and valuation of acquisition targets, targeted transaction / partnership due diligence, and development of global business strategies. In Global Sustainability, you will support the execution of AGI’s sustainability strategy and related initiatives, data collection and reporting at the corporate-level. This includes supporting initiatives for ESG topics such as the management of AGI’s greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and energy usage, expanding diversity & inclusion and responsible supply chain efforts, among others.

The Team

The Co-op will work closely with the Senior Manager of Global Sustainability and the Manager of Corporate Development with frequent interactions with senior members of the Corporate Development team. They will be required to interact with teams across AGI’s global operations with a focus on Canada and the United States dedicated to manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, and corporate offices.


Responsibilities

Corporate Development

  • Support merger and acquisition project efforts including valuation analysis, due diligence, structuring, documentation and project management
  • Prepare acquisition-related documentation including internal and external presentations, financial models, and valuation analysis
  • Develop and prepare market insights, establish competitive landscapes with the goal of identifying strategic partners and actionable strategic initiatives
  • Communicate strategies and strategic topics to a wide variety of stakeholders and leaders


Sustainability

  • Assist with the planning, delivery, and monitoring of various ESG initiatives
  • Assist with ESG data collection and analysis including coordinating data collection with facilities on specific ESG topics, designing dashboards, and developing presentations to enable evidence-based decision making
  • Conduct market research on ESG industry trends, best practices, and external reporting frameworks and standards
  • Contribute to creating internal progress updates for senior management and support the development of internal reports, presentations, and business cases
  • Support the development of external communications and the preparation of AGI’s sustainability report including liaising with facility leaders to obtain key inputs
  • Support in responding to information requests from sustainability rating agencies


Requirements

  • Minimum Qualifications
    Enrolled in a post-secondary program such as business, economics, engineering, sustainability, environmental studies, or related field
    Demonstrated experience and interest in sustainability topics (e.g., energy management, GHG emissions, diversity and inclusion, etc.) through past internships, research projects and/ or coursework

    Demonstrated technical skills, modelling capabilities, and understanding of finance and accounting principles
    Excellent research and business writing skills with the ability to synthesize information and communicate complex topics
    Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)
    Excellent problem solving, organizational and communication skills with strong attention to detail
    Enjoy working in an ever-changing, collaborative, and fast-paced environment
  • Preferred Qualifications
    Some experience in sustainability, investment banking, private equity, or corporate role in a mergers & acquisition / valuation function
    Experience in corporate strategy development and execution
    Familiarity with PowerBI
