The Indigenous Internship Program (IIP) is a 12-month paid internship program designed to provide recent Indigenous (First Nations, Métis, Inuit) post-secondary graduates, with the opportunity to gain professional level work experience and a pathway through which they can build and develop transferable skills that can be used to gain sustained employment in their field of choice.
You must self-identify as an Indigenous person to be eligible for this program. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.

The Indigenous Intern will be working in the Human Resources Department in the Corporate Planning & Services Division where they will be supporting the employee experience, health and safety as well as organizational support projects for the Cabinet Office (CO). This will include supporting the overall culture and operations of the ministry by:
- assisting with full cycle recruitment and maintaining our diversity lens
- assisting in enhancing employee experience by communications, identifying priority areas of improvement for divisions and branches and developing programs to enhance staff and manager engagement
- reviewing training, and developing new trends for the ministry to identify future learning opportunities
- researching, collecting and analyzing data for the ministry, identifying gaps, developing options, programs or practices, and making recommendations
How do I qualify?
Mandatory
- You must have graduated or will complete the requirements to graduate with a degree, diploma or post-graduate certificate from a recognized or legally authorized post-secondary institution in the last five years (May 2018-June 2023).
- You must self-identify as an Indigenous person. The term Indigenous refers to individuals who identify as being descended from the original inhabitants (the first peoples) of what is now known as Canada. In this context, Indigenous people are First Nations, Métis and/or Inuit.
- You must be legally entitled to work in Canada.

Technical Knowledge:
- You have knowledge of human resources programs and human resources administration to support coordination of initiatives and to track inquiries regarding the Branch’s activities, services and products, and provide project and logistical assistance to the Branch.
- You have knowledge of Human Resources (HR) information systems and data bases to access the data, and gather appropriate information for specific HR-related purposes and prepare various information summaries.
Analytical Skills:
- You have the ability to conduct research and access information sources to support project initiatives undertaken by the branch and assists in preparing a range of reports on research findings.
- You have strong attention to detail skills to ensure the accuracy of tracking and data entry.
Communication and Interpersonal Skills:
- You have strong written communication skills to prepare reports and to provide/obtain information on the unit’s programs.
- You possess teamwork and collaborative skills to work with colleagues and interact with a variety of internal and external contacts.
Project Management and Organization Skills:
- You have project management skills to assist with coordination of various initiatives, projects and issues.
- You have the ability to provide planning and scheduling support for the delivery of branch programs, including gathering and organizing information, distributing documents to team members and tracking deliverables.
Computer Skills:
- You are proficient with common office productivity software, such as word processor, spreadsheet, presentation, email and database applications to prepare correspondence, reports and presentations.

Schedule:
- These temporary internship positions are 12-month contracts starting August 28, 2023.
- The information that you provide for the purpose of this competition and the results from this competition may be used to fill other internship opportunities in the OPS and public sector organizations where TBS provides administrative services.
- In accordance with the Ontario Public Service (OPS), Employment Screening Checks Policy (ESCP), the top candidate(s) may be required to undergo a security screening check. Required security screening checks along with your written consent, will be sent to the Transition and Security Office (TSO), Centre for People, Culture and Talent, Treasury Board Secretariat to evaluate the results.
