Property Accountant

JOB SUMMARY

The Property Accountant is involved in the day-to-day accounting functions as they relate to the overall operational activities of the company, under the direction of the Assistant Controller. The Accountant assists management in creating a professional and well-run organization that is able to capitalize on new opportunities while meeting all the challenges to its existing business.

The Accountant’s primary duties are to ensure all required accounting functions of the company are carried out in a timely and accurate manner, including accounts receivable, cash management, and financial reporting.

JOB DESCRIPTION

The following Tasks, Duties and Responsibilities are the essential functions of this job:

Financial Management:

  • Assists the Assistant Controller, plans, sets up and administers accounting systems and prepares financial information
  • Assists examines accounting records and prepares financial statements and reports
  • Assists develops and maintains reporting and internal control procedures
  • Reviews data to ensure accuracy and compliance with accounting policies and procedures
  • Analyzes expense accounts

Assists the Controller with the following:

  • Generating monthly budget reports, comparing actual to budget and highlighting variance
  • Preparing cash flow forecasts and monitors plan
  • Year-end audit working papers
  • Prepare and submit GST filing and posting for all companies
  • AR management and reporting

Property Accounting:

  • Set up and maintain all properties’ tenants accounts
  • Estimates CAM budgets, reconcile actual operating cost recoveries, and maintain Tenant Improvement amortization schedules
  • Maintain and analyze properties’ utility accounts and records
  • Labour charge out preparation and posting
  • Bank reconciliation for all bank accounts

Accounts Receivable:

  • Oversees accounts receivable collections including rent collection, rebilling and follow up
  • Maintain tenants EFT payment accounts
  • Assists accounts payable, including matching, batching, coding and cheque runs back up

Other:

  • Participates in and contributes to the strategic and business planning process
  • Participates in the development and maintenance of company policies, procedures and processes to ensure that clear understandings are in place
  • Advises and responds to concerns of administrative staff regarding accounting issues

Other duties and projects as may be assigned from time to time. Due to the dynamic nature of this company and the industry(s) in which it operates, the duties and responsibilities of the Property Accountant shall be reviewed periodically and may change from time to time.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

The core competencies of this role consist of the following Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Attributes:

EXPERIENCE

Must Have:

Demonstrated experience in accounting practices, including minimum 2 years of progressive responsibility, specifically:

· General ledger accounting systems

· Budgeting

· Accounts payable and receivable

Demonstrated competency with accounting computer software systems for the preparation of reports, spreadsheets and other accounting analysis (MS Word, Outlook, & Excel)

Considered Assets:

· Property Management Industry Experience

· Yardi Property Management Software

EDUCATION

Must Have:

University degree/ diploma in accounting, commerce, economics, or other related discipline

Considered assets:

  • Pursuit of professional accounting designation

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
