About Creative Taxes:
We are a small accounting/tax firm located in NDG with a focus on serving Montreal’s creative and professional community, drawing on our own experiences as artists and musicians. We work with individuals as well as corporations on all accounting and tax matters. The foundation of our business is the trust we have built with clients through hard work, thorough communication and honest interactions. It is through these relationships that we further our mission to increase financial and tax literacy within our community.
Position Summary
Start Date: March 2, 2023
Contract length: 12 weeks (ending May 25th, 2023)
Hours: 40 hours per week (possibility of overtime)
Compensation: $20 to $25 per hour, depending on experience
Benefits: One paid week off in May, contingent on firm achieving performance goal
+ *Possibility of transitioning into a full time corporate tax position in the summer*

Tasks and Responsibilities:
The Tax Preparer is primarily responsible for:
- Reviewing information received from personal tax clients to ensure complete
- Using DTMax software to accurately and precisely prepare the following types of tax returns:
– Personal tax return
– Business tax return (unincorporated)
– Rental income
– Employment expense deductions
– Moving expenses
- Calculating net income for self-employed individuals in Excel
- Calculating GST/QST remittances for self-employed individuals
- Optimizing returns for potential credits and deductions
- Communicating results effectively with clients
- Being present in the office *Not a remote position*
- Navigating government websites and other resources for tax queries
Qualifications:
At Creative Taxes, we recognize the value of both paid and unpaid work. We encourage applications from candidates who meet some or all of the following qualifications:
- AEC, DEP, DEC or BComm in accounting
- Minimum 2 years of relevant experience in preparing personal tax returns
- Understanding of different levels of taxation
- Strong knowledge and experience with Excel and DT Max
- Ability to write and speak in French and English

Our Hiring Process:
While interviews will be conducted in both English and French, candidates are not required to be perfectly bilingual. Interviews will take place on February 22nd and 23rd. Only selected applicants will be contacted, via email on February 20th.
