Job purpose
Reporting to the Controller, the Assistant Controller is responsible for financial operations & systems, month-end and general financial support for each Business Unit at Glacier Farm Media.
Duties and responsibilities
- Review and prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliation, investigating and correction of discrepancies
- Work with IT on system upgrades, new implementation projects and applying best practices across the Company
- Manage internal and external audit requests
- Manage, monitor and streamline accounting operations, including A/R, A/P, accounting and financial reporting
- Partner with leaders across the organization to support operations through financial and non-financial analyses, contract review, pricing initiatives and market insights
- Support the parent company’s (Glacier Media Group) accounting, financial reporting and tax functions
- Support compliance and other regulatory requirements associated with government and non-government agencies
- Support preparation of monthly financial reports, including ad hoc reporting
- Draft and review technical accounting memorandums in accordance with the International Financial Reporting Standards
- Participate in confidential budget planning, financial forecasting, and implementation
- Enforce financial policies and make recommendations for improvements
- Coordinate an effective, efficient and timely month-end close process, including ownership of the general ledger, preparation of variance analysis and other relevant reporting insights
- Execute on key initiatives outlined on the finance roadmap
- Manage, support and mentor accounting staff
Key attributes, strengths and qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience
- CPA designation is an asset
- Demonstrated experience leading and managing a team
- Ability to overcome complex financial situations and challenges
- Broad knowledge of accounting principles and best practices
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organizational and time management skills
- Strong computer skills with advanced working knowledge of Excel and ERP systems
- Strong business sense and demonstrated ability to understand business needs
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to identify and improve processes to drive efficiencies
- Ability to manage multiple and competing priorities
- Comfortable working in a dynamic environment
- Experience in the agricultural industry an asset
Working Conditions
- Hybrid environment
- Some travel to farm shows and events required (once a year)
Job Type: Full-time
Salary: $65,000.00-$80,000.00 per year
