Overview
The Human Resources Generalist will work in cooperation with the Human Resources team on a daily basis in order to assist the day to day operations of Plats du Chef’s Concord facilities. The HR Generalist is responsible for handling various aspects of human resources including recruitment and retention, performance management, leave management, payroll and employee relations. Will demonstrate promote and exemplify the Company’s Core Values in Health & Safety, People, Quality/ Food Safety and Growth.

Main accountabilities include:

  • Support, collaborate, and advise Supervisors on diverse employee relations issues (i.e. performance management, attendance management, progressive disciplinary action up to suspension and claims management, etc.), including compiling and preparing documentation to support appropriate recommendations
  • Provide advice and guidance regarding the administration, interpretation and application of company policies and procedures
  • Provide overall employee relations support to all staff by investigating and resolving employee issues, concerns and complaints, escalating as necessary
  • Process bi-weekly payroll for hourly employees in accordance with established company practices and procedures
  • Ensure rate adjustments and/or premiums when an employee changes position
  • Liaison with payroll department regarding hourly employees’ pay, hours, benefits, new hires, terminations, etc.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders to provide support on the full employment life cycle
  • Participates in the development and implementation of organizational programs and initiatives
  • Monitor employee engagement and retention and suggest recommendations where required
  • Actively participate in the Joint Health & Safety Committee program and activities
  • Manage employees on extended/personal leaves, including medical (WSIB claims management, modified duties, workplace accommodations)
  • Maintain employee files, both soft (HRIS) and hard copies in a timely manner, ensuring they are up-to-date, accurate and complete (new hire information, wage changes, promotions, transfers, benefits profile, terminations etc.)
  • Conducts systems audits of the HRIS to ensure data integrity and the accuracy of employee-related data
  • Generate weekly/ monthly statistics, and trend analysis and ensure all deliverables are completed accurately and on time
  • Recommends new approaches, policies and procedures to effect continual improvements in efficiency of the department and services performed
  • Maintain and foster relationships to enable collaboration with all levels of the organization ensuring a high level of customer service is provided.
  • Provide support to HR Manager and HR Coordinator regarding projects and other assigned tasks
  • Effective implementation and adherence to company’s Food Safety and Quality Policies and Procedures including but not limited to SQF, HACCP and GMP to ensure food safety and quality of products manufactured.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Minimum 4 years’ experience in an HR role preferably in the manufacturing or pharmaceutical industry
  • Degree or diploma in business administration, human resources management, or a related field required
  • CHRP (Certified Human Resources Profession) designation would be an asset
  • Comprehensive knowledge of employment law (i.e. Employment Standards, Human Rights, AODA etc.)
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong working relationships with employees at all levels, cultivating mutual understanding and gaining influence
  • Resiliency to handle shifting priorities and maintain demeanor in high intensity situations
  • Superior written and verbal communication skills; can speak to large groups
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Highly detail oriented with excellent organizational and multitasking skills, and thrives in a fast-paced and changing environment
  • Demonstrates initiative and ability to seek out answers to questions and problems
  • Extremely trustworthy and capable of handling highly sensitive and confidential information
  • Strong PC proficiency including MS word, Excel and PowerPoint, HRIS Experience, preferably Workday.

Working Conditions

  • Work schedule: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (hours may change based on business requirements)
  • Must be able to work flexible hours, and work on weekends if required
  • Exposure to food products like flour, starch, meat, poultry, seafood, dairy and a cold work environment.
