Director of Mineral Solutions
Our Client is looking for a Director of Minerals Solutions to help meet the growing demand for project engineering in the minerals sector in Canada and abroad. This is a multi-discipline project delivery firm providing quality services for clients in the mining sector since 1975. The new Minerals Solutions group will draw on resources from the existing multi-disciplinary team as well as build new capabilities. The future organization and interaction with existing Departments shall be determined together by the Management and the Director, Minerals Solutions.

Responsibilities

  • Identify areas, clients and projects in the minerals sector that can successfully be infiltrated.
  • Establish working relationships with mining companies and define a potential role in the market.
  • Develop a high-level business plan with clearly defined achievable targets for the next 12-18 month period.
  • Develop a Project Studies Group.
  • Define staffing requirements for the Minerals Solutions Group based on the business plan developed.
  • Leverage existing clients to expand relationships.
  • Optimize the size and capabilities of the Minerals group to ensure a long term successful and profitable business.
  • Monitor the financial status of ongoing projects to ensure they are delivered within budget and on time.
  • Continuous contact with existing clients to ensure their satisfaction.
  • Participate in the development of project estimates and schedules.
  • Review and help grow Procurement Services.
  • Assist the President in reviewing current personnel, identifying shortfalls (specifically process and metallurgical engineers) and selecting candidates for employment.
  • Maintain and improve technical and project-related competencies of staff by identifying and implementing requirements for training and knowledge transfer.
  • Conduct yearly performance reviews for staff.
  • Identify and oversee implementation of productivity improving technologies and software specific to the electrical and automation groups.
  • Work towards the integration of electrical and automation requirements in other company wide engineering applications and platforms
  • Act as the main client contact for Minerals projects.
  • Assist the President in developing marketing plans, identifying opportunities, and calling on potential clients.
  • Reports to the President.
  • Direct Reports: all personnel within the new Mineral Solutions group.
  • Functional relationships with Chief Engineers, Project Engineers and others.

Requirements: Undergraduate or graduate degree in Mineral Processing or in Metallurgy from a recognized university 15 or more years of relevant experience in consulting engineering and/or in assessing projects and staff management Knowledge and experience in mineral processing and metallurgical extraction processes as well as in performing operating and capital cost estimates Knowledge of the reporting guidelines for the Canadian National Instrument 43-101 standard Experience in budgeting, estimating and scheduling, with financial modeling skills being an asset Experienced in Business Development Occasional travel to domestic or international destinations Engineering License in at least one Province
