Casual Part Time
The Recreation Therapist works independently and as part of the inter-professional health care team and is responsible for the development, coordination and implementation of recreation therapy and leisure counseling. The main duty of the Recreational Therapist is to assess, plan, implement, coordinate and evaluate a variety of program activities, achieving optimal care for the patient prior to admission, while in the program and following discharge. Must be able to collaborate with other disciplines to provide all services.
What must you have?
- Degree in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a concentration in Therapeutic Recreation from an accredited university.
- Member in good standing with Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TRO).
- Current Basic Cardiac Life Support (BCLS) certification.
What else do you bring?
- Minimum 3 years experience working with brain injury and/or Mental Health Day Program
- Recent experience in volunteer programs and/or working with volunteers
- Understanding of recreation therapy methodologies, principles and practice
- Maintains membership in professional job related organizations as related to area of expertise and knowledge of current trends, such as Therapeutic Recreation Ontario (TR0) and Activity Professionals of Ontario
- Strong working knowledge of therapeutic recreation principles and practices
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and self-directed in developing, organizing, implementing leisure/recreation programs and assessing leisure needs/goals
- Experience in facilitating individual and group interventions
- Able to discern relevant information to make effective decisions regarding patient care planning
- Able to access appropriate community supports and work effectively with a culturally diverse and complex clientele
- Able to work collaboratively within the interdisciplinary team
- Demonstrates commitment to professional development and learning
- Demonstrates a strong patient and customer focused philosophy in all interactions
- Ability to analyze research and implement evidence-based practice into Policy and Procedure development and clinical practice
- Communicates effectively using timely, appropriate written, verbal, and non-verbal means
- Computer literacy in a Windows environment utilizing Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook.
- Proven attendance record.
- Demonstrates understanding and complies with patient and staff safety policies and procedures that foster a safe and inclusive environment for all.
- Ability to perform the essential duties of the job.
- Effectively uses empathy in interactions with others and demonstrates behaviors consistent with Mackenzie Health’s Commitment to Caring.

Preferably, your profile also includes:
- Experience in HED, BCARE, HPF is an asset
- Current certification in non-violent crisis intervention is an asset
- Experience in supervising Recreation Therapy Students and volunteers is an asset
