P&R Truck Centre is looking for a Senior Accountant to join our team at our Nanaimo area location.
Summary:
The Senior Accountant (SA) is a highly organized individual, skilled at multi-tasking, with a positive outlook. Ideally, the candidate is experienced in a multi-branch environment. With the support of the Controllers, the SA will perform full cycle accounting, including but not limited to; assisting with monthly financials, ensuring AR / AP/ and GL accounts are up to date, reconciliations, batch disbursements and assist in the coaching & training of accounting staff members. The SA will have a focus within our AP department, coaching & mentoring staff and the AP process.
Key relationships in this role: P&R Employees (frontline & senior management), Vendors, IT/Software providers.
This role is based in our Nanaimo office, and may require occasional trips to our Saanichton head office.
Job Responsibilities:
Full cycle accounting responsibilities, including but not limited to:
o Preparing financial analyses, month end reports and reconciliations
o Investigating and resolving account discrepancies, and preparing adjusting journal entries
o Assisting with setting up accounting rules, mapping and coding
o Overseeing and reconciling batch disbursements
o Assisting with creating & developing processes and procedures
o Assisting with year-end audit preparations
o Supporting our payroll process as needed
o Other duties as assigned.
Accounts Payable
o In partnership with the Controller, supervising, coaching & mentoring the AP team.
o Managing the AP entries in the system, assisting with clean-up and auditing as needed/directed.
Critical Success Factors:
Attendance, Punctuality & Reliability: The Sr Accountant is a key role, relied on by all employees in the company. You will be interacting with staff and vendors on a daily basis. The Accounting department moves quickly, it is important the successful candidate is present to support the team and staff.
Stress Management: Business is growing and the Accounting department manages a high volume of paper/information in a very dynamic environment. This can at times become stressful to ensure all priorities are met. The successful candidate will be able to manage their stress levels and ensure they are coming forward for help or assistance as needed.
Flexibility: Our environment is one that is fast paced, and priorities can change very quickly. The successful candidate must be flexible and comfortable prioritizing and adjusting their day as required to meet business needs.
Organization: The successful candidate must be highly organized as they are expected to manage a high volume of information daily. This may include but is not limited to; invoices, customer statements, cheque requests, staff reimbursements, visa reconciliations, vendor information, deadlines, month end timelines, and administrative task management.
Communication: You will be communicating with various stakeholder across the organization. Respectful dialogue, in both written and verbal communications is key.
Attention to Detail: This is crucial. The successful candidate will ensure all data is being entered accurately within the system. They will also take the time to ensure they are clear on the various processes within the department and AP’s role within the computer system. Not only understanding the correct way to complete the tasks, but the ripple effect that can occur if we are inaccurate.
Process Driven: We are in a period of growth & development, establishing the processes we need to ensure success in the future. The ideal candidate will be process driven, with a focus on continuous improvement.
Problem Solving: This role will take the lead in investigating problems as they arise. The ideal candidate will use a structured approach, with excellent follow up skills and escalate issues as they see fit to ensure a successful resolution.
Senior Accountant Requirements:
– Post-secondary degree or diploma in Accounting or Finance.
– 3 plus years related experience in AP, including management or supervisory experience.
– Ability to analyze and present numerical data in tables, spreadsheet and forms.
– Proficient with MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
– Negotiation & relationship building skills.
– Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
– Post-Secondary courses within the accounting field considered an asset.
– Good stress management & de-escalation skills.
– Experience with Accounting software Excede will be considered an asset.
Dealership Experience
Preference will be given to candidates coming from the Automotive/Truck dealership industry: multi dealership environments, managing a high volume of transactions daily.
Working Environment & Physical Requirements
This role is sedentary in nature and performed in an office environment. Extended hours of typing and data processing are to be expected. It is expected at least 50% of your time will be dedicated to phone calls and interaction with both customers & staff. Lifting requirements will be minimal, and not expected to be more than 20 to 25lbs on occasion.
