Position Summary:
Reporting to the Controller, the Payroll Accountant is responsible for all aspects of payroll including bi-weekly preparation of payroll accounts and submissions, reconciliation and approval of payments, payroll journal entries and reporting, and managing expenses. Processing payroll for hourly and salaried employees and generating invoices. Other duties include managing the Company budget and expense as well as cooperating with different departments to increase payroll service performance and improve upon the payroll system.
Position Responsibilities/Duties:
- Works with company database programs and Quickbooks Enterprise to process payroll
- Prepares, processes, and reconciles payroll in compliance with all related laws, standards and regulations, accurately and on time
- Maintains employee files and Pay Equity records
- Enters and maintains records for personnel accruals and actual utilization of float days, holidays, vacation, sick, personal, and other days and responds to queries, as required
- Administers and updates payroll platform to meet the needs of the Company
- Prepares, reconciles, and submits year-end reporting as required for Canada Pension Plan (CPP), Employment Insurance (EI) and Employer Health Tax (EHT)
- Administers Company benefits, responding to employee inquiries and assisting with claims submissions as needed
- Participates along with the Controller in the negotiations of benefits plan renewals
- Informs employees of optional (excess) insurance plans and process payments for same
- Maintains personnel database regarding salaries
- Manages organization budget and expenses
- Reports to department supervisor regarding daily activities and issues
- Effectively addresses and resolves employee complaints relating to the payroll system
- Prepares reports to relevant departments about payroll, company budget and expense

Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
- Experience with QuickBooks systems required
- Degree, Diploma or verifiable experience in Accounting, Commerce, Business Administration or related field
- 3+ years of general accounting experience
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including advanced knowledge of Excel
- Strong knowledge of tax and wage laws
- Good understanding of the common fiscal procedures

Salary: $53,000.00-$57,000.00 per year
