ESTIMATOR, GENERAL CONTRACTING

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the VP, Engineering and Estimating, the Estimator will focus on analyzing and interpreting tender documents to prepare detailed execution plans and cost estimates for our General Contracting Division pursuits in the commercial, healthcare, educational, industrial, and infrastructure markets. The Estimator will work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, and other Operations team members on daily basis regarding project development activities.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:

  • Analyze tender documents by reading and interpreting blueprints, maps, drawings, and specifications
  • Visualize and prepare a detailed plan to execute work in an efficient manner based on tender documents
  • Complete entire bid preparation process including quantity take-offs, sub-trade procurement, pricing and closing procedures
  • Analyze subcontractor/supplier bids to ensure the full scope of work is included
  • Calculate material, labour and equipment costs and requirements
  • Identify and complete risk analysis associated with projects
  • Analyze strategies, advantages, or innovations for the project that could provide Sigfusson Northern with a more competitive bid
  • Attend and prepare internal pre-tender meetings, estimate reviews, and tender closing meetings
  • Prepare schedules and timelines and conduct site visits
  • Work closely with the Operations team in project development activities such as scope definition and preconstruction planning including budgets and cost plans
  • Work closely with Project Managers and Superintendents on awarded contracts by estimating extra work items, change orders & credits
  • Attend project completion meetings with Project Managers, Site Superintendents and Foremen to discuss positive and negative aspects of project

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS:

  • Minimum 5+ years of General Contracting estimating experience is required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Engineering Technology Diploma,
  • Construction Management Diploma or a Construction related Degree or Diploma is considered an asset
  • Experience working in the field on construction projects will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Primavera P6 and/or MS Project is required
  • Experience working in BlueBeam/digitized takeoff software and CAD will be considered an asset
  • Critical thinking and effective decision-making skills are required
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet strict deadlines
  • Strong communication skills both verbal and written as well as electronically
  • Strong accuracy and attention to detail
  • Must hold a valid driver’s license
