To perform this job successfully, the individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily:
- Be familiar with and understand the Work Safe BC Worker’s Compensation Act, Regulations and all other applicable industry codes and standards and effectively apply the requirements of the project specific safety standards with all Employees and trades partners on the project;
- Maintain accurate statistics for the assigned site and respect reporting and compliance deadlines;
- Interface with Management and work with field supervision to identify, develop and implement corrective actions for hazardous work conditions or unsafe Employee actions;
- Conduct incident investigations when required and produce quality reports using the Root Cause Analysis Tool, including recommended meaningful corrective actions;
- Work with Supervision and Engineers to develop and review Job Hazard Analysis, Safe Work Plan, Site Specific Safe Work Procedures and Practices, etc.;
- Track safety and PPE inventory and manage restocking safety supplies and materials as needed;
- Conduct and participate in safety audits and inspections;
- Maintain a Corrective Action Log to ensure deficiencies are corrected in a timely manner;
- Coordinate and deliver safety training activities as it relates to the project jobs, including site specific-orientations;
- Under the guidance of the HSE Manager, assist with Weekly Safety Meeting preparation and other ad-hoc meetings, including but not limited to incident reviews and follow-ups;
- Attend project specific meetings as required;
- Maintain professional workplace conduct at all times;
- Maintain knowledge of Company Values and Strategic Plan;
- Support effort to achieve and maintain COR Certification and incident free workplace;
- Support published corporate policies;
- Develop site-specific Emergency Response Plan and coordinate incident management;
- Coordinate an Emergency Response Drill, at minimum once a year, for all critical tasks;
- Fulfil all First Aid Attendant functions and duties when required on the project; and
- Perform additional administrative assignments per Management’s directions.
Education and/or Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Occupational Health and Safety or a related field from an accredited institution and 5 years relevant experience and/or training in the construction industry
- Current OFA 2 or higher certification is as asset
- COR Internal Auditor is an asset
Certifications and/or Licensing Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License
- Required Company or regulatory certifications
- Required Company safety certifications
Competencies
- Computer usage proficiency i.e., Microsoft Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.
- Ability to initiate and/or accept directions
- Strong leadership and time management skills
