Safehaven serves individuals with disabilities and their families, through respite and residential programs at our Toronto, Etobicoke, North York, Woodbridge, and Aurora facilities, as well as client homes.

Role Summary:
At Safehaven,our goal is to provide exceptional care and improve the lives of our clients and their families. Whether we are in a client-facing role or supporting staff that are client-facing, we all work towards the same goal. The Financial Accountant will be part of our internal support team that indirectly works towards building stronger communities and families.
The Financial Accountant will assist the Finance Manager in inputting and monitoring all financial data in accounting system and preparing accurate statements for Safehaven.
The Financial Accountant’s responsibilities include assisting the Finance Manager with budgeting, managing tax payments, performing internal and external audits. This role will be responsible for ensuring our financial transactions comply with legislation and company goals. This role will be responsible for bi-weekly payroll.
Responsibilities:
- Perform day-to-day accounting duties for accurate and timely closure of accounting books at month end.
- Gather, monitor and input financial data into accounting system (e.g., Government payments, fundraising, donations, accounts receivable, accounts payable, client-related transactions etc.);
- Manage accurate accounts receivable ledger and timely collections of receivable accounts
- Manage accurate accounts payable ledger and timely payments to vendors
- Provide any support possible to front-line staff who are caring for clients and their families.
- Timely and accurate closure of accounts receivable, accounts payable, revenue, donations and expense entries at month end, ensuring correct allocation to cost centres and GL accounts
- Assist Finance manager in managing tax and benefits payments;
- Administer bi-weekly payroll;
- Organize internal audit of clients’ accounts;
- Keeping clients’ ledgers up-to-date and ensuring proper alignment with entries in accounting system
- Assist in facilitating annual audit of Financial statements
- Assist the Finance Manager in various budgets preparation by providing detailed information whenever required
- Monitor and report on accounting discrepancies;
- Perform month-end and year-end close processes.
Qualifications:
- Proven work experience as a Financial Accountant or similar role;
- Desire to work for an organization that is committed to providing exceptional service and be an ambassador of Safehaven values to provide services to clients and families.
- Advanced knowledge of MS Excel and accounting software. Knowledge of Quick books is a definite asset
- In-depth understanding of accounting procedures;
- Solid knowledge of accounting regulations.
- Experience administering payroll and / or payroll certification is a definite asset.
- Excellent math skills with an attention to detail.
- Time-management abilities.
- Degree or certificate in Accounting, Finance, or relevant field.
- Accounting certification (CPA) or working towards CPA is a plus.
