What you’ll do
It’s safe to say, there’s no shortage of variety in what we do. Here are some key accountabilities of the role:
- This position is responsible for advising and processing of occupational and non –occupational claims for TJX Canada Associates and contractors, with the applicable agencies / vendors in a timely manner with regular follow up. Ensures safe and timely return to work by partnering with Management and Operations to establish and monitor return to work plans for all injury or illness accommodation needs.
- Monitor and communicate Company expectations for temporary non-occupational claims and short-term accommodations, including related administration, facilitation, and record retention with internal and external partners (i.e. Human Resources departments and i.e. Insurance Carriers / Third Party Providers).
- Develops appropriate medically supported return to work plans and short-term accommodations for Associates with illness/injury and or disability, who can be accommodated within their own occupations and/or when a return to regular duties is expected in less than three months. Communicates work plans / agreements to ensure a safe and sustainable return to work for Associates.
- Provides direction to, seeks counsel from, and works with, other Associates and third-party vendors to monitor and document cooperation in absence and accommodation cases. Communicate expectations with Human Resources, Managers and Associates if an Associate is not cooperating with TJX Canada programs.
- Recommend, build, and amend complex work plans and intervention strategies for quick resolution.
- Accurately maintain and update in a timely manner the systems database and record retention for all related claims, in accordance with Company reporting needs and legislative governance, especially for potential hearings and legal action.
- Coordinate third party assessments with vendors (i.e. independent medical examinations, functional abilities/capabilities evaluations, ergonomic assessments, ergonomic job coaching, job site analysis, physical / cognitive demands profiles etc.) for Associates and their People Leaders and document the outcomes of those assessments
- Act as the “go-to” person by providing guidance and counsel to team members, ensures appropriate follow up, research, recommendations, and / or escalation for complex claims / accommodations, including Associates seeking accommodation through the talent acquisition process, and Associates seeking remedy through Open Door process or legal action.
- Partner with Health & Safety team, Human Resources teams, HR Shared Services team, Store/Field Operations teams, and Union Representatives, as appropriate.
What you’ll need
To begin your career with us, we require the following:
- Minimum four (4) years of claims-related work experience, with a solid understanding of return-to-work process; preferably within retail and/or distribution/warehouse environment (i.e. Distribution Centre).
- Excellent written, verbal communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Experienced with workers compensation, human rights legislation, WSIB claims, and/or short and long-term disability practices.
- Informal influence skills including providing advice and guidance to team members to resolve problems; discuss and share best practices.
- Strong sense of confidentiality; requires discretion and thorough knowledge of the organization’s operations, procedures, and policies.
- Excellent computer skills including MS Office – Word, Excel, PowerPoint, vendor portals, and case management systems.
