Our Sudbury Operations have been in existence for more than 100 years. With five mines, a mill, a smelter, a refinery and nearly 4,000 employees it is also one of the largest integrated mining complexes in the world. Sudbury is also home to several administrative sites serving both the Ontario Operations as well as all our North Atlantic Operations.
Port Colborne is home to our Nickel Refinery where raw materials from our Sudbury operations are processed into electrocobalt and precious metals and serves as a distribution centre for finished nickel products.
Our Team:
As part of the Mines Technical Services Team, you will help ensure the safe and efficient extraction of Ore within our world class Mining Operation. This role will focus on technical support to the operation including surveying, ventilation monitoring, microseismic support and planning. This role requires regular work underground (4 to 5 days per week). As a mines technician, the successful incumbent will be expected to self-organise and work autonomously and can also be expected to perform ventilation and seismic system support duties as well as begin the process of planning work.
The Opportunity
We are currently seeking am Mines Technologist, to join our Creighton Mine in Sudbury.
To provide mines technical services support at Creighton Mine.
Accountabilities:
- Follow Safety Plan developed for the operations department in conjunction with Mines MTS Safety Plan.
- Provide input to the Divisional Supervisor for creation of the drilling, development, and production layouts for execution by the Operating Team.
- Monitor mine development, production, and construction excavation projects with respect to lines, grade and conformance to short term production plans raising issues of non-conformance to the Divisional Supervisor.
- Performing surveying, ventilation, microseismic and planning/scheduling functions to support the short- and long-term production planning requirements for the mine, reporting non-conformance to the Divisional Supervisor.
- Identify, analyze and recommend opportunities for safety, productivity and cost improvements.
- Frequent underground travel is required.
Qualifications and Specific Skills:
Education: Minimum 2 Year Community College Diploma in an appropriate mining discipline or Post-Secondary equivalent.
Experience: More than three years, up to five years of progressive experience in ventilation, surveying, and ground control monitoring.
Required Skills:
- Required to perform routine professional or technical tasks, procedures or calculations requiring basic training in more than one specialty as pertaining to surveying, ventilation, ground control and planning disciplines (e.g. uses standard software at a functional level).
- Proficiency in the use of: Deswik, and Microsoft Excel.
- Knowledge of Mining, Milling and Refining processes as it pertains to operational engineering.
- Demonstrated competency in surveying (a short test may be administered).
- Demonstrated competency in ventilation systems (a short test may be administered).
