Weld-O-Matic Machines Company Ltd
A manufacturing company in Hamilton, Ontario is seeking a General Accountant for their operation. This position is responsible for all accounting functions, payroll, general office administration and purchasing administration support for the company. This position has duel reporting to the Operations Manager and the Chief Financial Officer for the parent company.
Main responsibilities include:
1. Accounting
a. The General Accountant is responsible for overseeing and sometimes handling all regular accounting activity including accounts payable and receivables and invoicing review/approval.
b. Processing of weekly payroll for both hourly and salaried staff.
c. Responsible for all accounting functions including preparation of monthly bank reconciliations, subledger reconciliations, accrued and prepaid continuity schedule maintenance, month end journal entries, variance analysis, weekly finished goods count and reporting, monthly financial statement preparation, etc.
d. Responsible for reconciling and preparing monthly HST submission.
e. Internal and external management reporting, including weekly metrics reporting, cash flow forecasting, budgeting and financial analyses. Monthly presentation of financial statements including presenting to corporate head office.
f. Annual preparation of the operation budget and monthly reporting.
g. Product costing preparation, bill of material creation, item maintenance in AccPac.
h. Customer pricing and quote preparation for both products and repairs.
2. Purchasing Administration Support
a. Assist with PO preparation and other purchasing admin functions including ensuring receiving is completed on a timely basis.
b. Work with Engineering on the Bill of Materials for all products.
c. Ensure costing system is accurate and up to date.
d. Act as backup for the Operations Manager when they are out of office.
3. Human Resources
a. This position is responsible for handling internal personnel records, managing the company’s benefit plans, and managing internal HR systems. Support from head office is provided for HR issues and practices.
b. Management of WSIB premiums, claims and return to work programs.
c. Reconciling and preparing monthly pension submission.
4. Office Administration
a. This position is responsible for the daily operation of the office and will assist with administration tasks as required.
Candidates must be detail-oriented and extremely organized. Outstanding verbal and written communication skills are a must, as well as the ability to manage constantly changing requirements and priorities. Excellent analysis and reconciliation skills are required. Microsoft Office knowledge is required with especially strong Excel skills. Exposure to various types of manufacturing accounting systems (especially AccPac/Sage) and payroll knowledge (Ceridian PowerPay) will be an asset. Since this position is a key part of the management team, good inter-personal skills are a necessity.
A Bachelor’s degree in business or commerce is required, along with 1-2 years of experience in an office environment (preferably in manufacturing). A formal accounting designation is not required. Salary will be commensurate with experience and a competitive benefit package is offered.
